Turn Doubts and Questions into bold Confidence in Jesus.

Why “Ten Mina Life?” What does that mean?

When reading The Parable of the Ten Minas in Luke 19:11-27  I was struck by a couple of things:

  1. I want to be like the first servant who takes the blessings God has given me and multiplies them for His Kingdom.
  2. Why did the third servant in the story say the things he said and see the king the way he did?

I thought about my own personal journey and realized that until I actually got to KNOW the One True King, Jesus Christ, I felt the same way this third servant did. I had preconceived notions about who God was and why He had so many laws for us to follow. I said I was a Christian because culturally, that was how I was brought up. But I did not KNOW Jesus. I did nothing with the blessings he had given me except bury them under a pile of my own dirt.

It wasn’t until I finally started to seek the answers to the questions I had about God, Jesus, and the claims of the Bible that I started to get to know the true character of God. I began to see how much He loves us and that His commands are there for our benefit; to protect us, to guide us, and to give us a fully alive life in Him. To Bless Us!

Just like the beginning of any relationship, we need to ask questions. You get to know someone by asking questions about them, about their character, their past, their morals, their beliefs.

When we ask those questions about God, we are not doing Him or anyone else a disservice. And we don’t offend God by asking either. Quite the contrary. We are beginning to develop a relationship with Him. He wants exactly that. He wants a relationship with you.

There is no claim of Christianity that will crumble under close scrutiny. God is not afraid of our questions and doubts. He knows that His character and claims about Who He is can stand up to your questions. He will show you how good, just, pure, and loving He is. He knows that the closer you look, the more you will understand that He is for you and wants to bless you more than you can possibly dream or imagine.

Once you believe that Jesus is who he says he is, believe that He is capable and did pay the penalty for your sins, trust Him to be the Lord of your life, and accept the free gift of grace that He offers us…He wants you to take the blessings He gives you and multiply them by sharing them, by investing them in Kingdom work for Kingdom glory.

If you do this out of love and gratitude, when He returns (and He will return) he will say, “Well done, my good servant! Because you have been trustworthy of a very small matter, take charge of ten cities.”

He will bless you on earth, in this life, in ways you never see coming. Then, He will bless you in heaven in ways far beyond our limited ability to understand.

But we have to ask our questions, be honest about our doubts, seek answers, find them, then seek some more until we trust Him and have faith to profess Him as our King, our Lord, our Savior!

Matthew 7:21-23 says, “Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in Heaven will enter. On judgment day many will say to me, ‘Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.’ But I will reply, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God’s laws.’ NLT

Had I not asked the questions and sought the answers, had I remained complacent to be culturally acceptable, I know those would have been the words I heard from Jesus on Judgment Day. I did not know him. I did not trust in Him. I said I was a Christian, but I broke God’s laws because I wanted my way, not His way. I wanted my kingdom, I trusted in my power. I did not know His love for me because I did not ask questions about who He really is.

I don’t want ANYONE to have that fate. And neither does God. (2 Peter 3:9)

So, the purpose of Ten Mina Life is twofold:

  1. To encourage and guide people as they ask questions about Jesus.
  2. To encourage those who follow Jesus, His disciples, as they earnestly and joyfully work to multiply His blessings by investing themselves in whatever area He has called them…Because we ALL need encouragement!

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be open to you.” Matthew 7:7

When we ask questions and seek answers, we will find Him. He will open the door to us. He will bless us, and we will want to share Him with others. When we do, we live a Ten Mina Life!

Luke 19:12-17

He said: “A man of noble birth went to a distant country to have himself appointed king and then to return. So he called ten of his servants and gave them ten minas. ‘Put this money to work,’ he said, ‘until I come back.’ “But his subjects hated him and sent a delegation after him to say, ‘We don’t want this man to be our king.’ “He was made king, however, and returned home. Then he sent for the servants to whom he had given the money, in order to find out what they had gained with it. “The first one came and said, ‘Sir, your mina has earned ten more.’ “ ‘Well done, my good servant!’ his master replied. ‘Because you have been trustworthy in a very small matter, take charge of ten cities.’
